MACFRUT 2026: Agroecology as a Bridge to Sustainability
AICS Hanoi took part in the event for the third time since 2022 confirming Macfrut as a well-established appointment. In this edition, AICS Hanoi presented its ongoing work on the cassava value chain a central focus of the recently launched project “Scientific and Technical Support for Sustainable Agriculture in ASEAN Countries – 3S.” The project aims to strengthen climate resilience and promote the socioeconomic and environmental sustainability of agriculture in ASEAN countries (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), through the introduction of sustainable agriculture practices and agricultural mechanization across the maize, cassava, and sugar value chains.

LAOS: An Opportunity for the Cassava Value Chain
One of the potential pilot sites has been identified in the district of Attapeu, in southern Laos, where approximately 10,000 hectares of land are available for cassava cultivation and where a network of farmers already collaborating with Alliance Bioversity & CIAT is active. The goal is to strengthen and expand existing conditions.
ASEAN: Launch of the 3S Project, a new initiative by Italian Cooperation
The project, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) with an allocation of approximately €3 million, will be implemented by the University of Milan, in collaboration with the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, and the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies. The initiative is part of the Italy-ASEAN Development Partnership and will last 36 months.
Hue: Inauguration of the New Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
On 10 December, the inauguration ceremony of the new Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Hospital of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Hue University took place in Hue, in central Vietnam. The facility, which will host 150 beds, was built under the AID 9627 initiative titled “Improvement of Health Services in Selected Areas of Central Vietnam and at Hue College of Medicine and Pharmacy.” The project is financed by the Italian Government through a soft loan amounting to a total of 12,760,000 euros.
Fifth ASEAN Italy Development Partnership Committee meeting
The Italy-ASEAN Development Partnership, in effect since September 2020, aims to strengthen relations with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations for the stability and prosperity of the Indo-Pacific. The Practical Cooperation Areas, priority areas of collaboration for the period 2022-2026, focus on the political-security, economic, and socio-cultural sectors, with the goal of promoting connectivity and supporting a shared development gap in areas of common interest and expertise.
Vietnam: strengthened cooperation for sustainable water resource management
The project, launched in 2023, culminated in a week-long institutional visit from October 20 to 24 by the CIMA Foundation delegation, led by its President, Prof. Luca Ferraris, in Hanoi.
