Hanoi – As part of its ongoing project monitoring activities, the AICS Hanoi Office conducted a field mission to Tay Ninh City in southern Vietnam on 2-3 November to assess progress in the implementation of the “Tay Ninh Wastewater Collection and Treatment System” project, financed by the Italian Government through a EUR 9.7 million soft loan. The mission was attended by Luca Sartorelli, Health, Infrastructure and WASH Coordinator, and Dung Nguyen, Liaison Officer.

Together with local counterparts and project stakeholders, the delegation visited the construction sites where works are currently underway to install the pipeline network that will connect households to the wastewater treatment plant inaugurated two years ago. To maximize efficiency and minimize disruption, these activities are being carried out in parallel with road rehabilitation works financed by Tay Ninh Province.

The mission confirmed steady progress in the implementation of the project. To date, approximately 2,300 of the planned 4,500 metres of pipeline have been completed, marking an important milestone towards the full operationalization of the system.

The works financed through the Italian soft loans are expected to be completed by the end of December 2026. The entire wastewater collection and treatment system is expected to become fully operational in 2027, significantly improving sanitation conditions and contributing to better public health outcomes for local communities.

The mission concluded with a technical meeting involving institutional partners and implementing companies to review progress and discuss the remaining steps required to ensure the successful completion of the project.
