Hanoi,6/12/2024 – A delegation from AICS Hanoi visited the Province of Quang Tri, Central Vietnam, in the last days of November. The field trip was part of the preparatory activities for the launch of two projects funded by Italy within the framework of the Vietnam Debt Swap Program.
The two interventions aim to improve the capacity for solid waste collection and treatment specifically in Gio Linh and Vinh Linh districts, and enhance water management and the clean supply in Cam Lo district, and AICS Hanoi Office provided technical support to local authorities in completing the related feasibility studies.
During their visit, AICS representatives visited project sites and met with officials from the Quang Tri Province Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DONRE) and the People’s Committee of Cam Lo District. The project located in Gio Linh and Vinh Linh districts plans to complete the construction of a solid waste collection, classification, and treatment system, ensuring that the rate of reuse and recycling of domestic solid waste will increase up to 85% compared to now, thereby reducing GHG emissions and environmental pollution. The project will benefit over 45,000 people living in 10 communes of the two districts.
On the other hand, the project located in Cam Lo will finance the construction of a domestic water supply system that will provide drinking water for 4,500 households. The new supply system will prevent people from resorting to unsustainable and unhealthy water sourcing practices, like groundwater exploitation.
Field activities are expected to start early 2025.
