The inauguration ceremony of the construction works of the “Tay Ninh City New Wastewater Collection and Treatment System” initiative was held on November 29th. Present at the event were: the vice president of the Tay Ninh Provincial People’s Committee, Duong Van Thang; Tay Ninh City People’s Committee Chairman Pham Trung Chanh; SELF. the Italian Ambassador to Vietnam, Antonio Alessandro; the owner of the AICS office in Hanoi, Tiziana Fusco; the Senior International Cooperation Desk Officer of the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment, Nguyen Huy Hoang.
The project, financed by Italian cooperation with an aid credit of 9,700,000 euros, will contribute to improving the living and health conditions of approximately 150,000 inhabitants of the city of Tay Ninh, through the construction of a water treatment plant with a capacity of 5000 m3/day, built by the Italian-Vietnamese Consortium Sideridraulic-HTC-OCI. The initiative also involves the construction of a 21 km sewerage network; whose tender for the selection of the manufacturer is being finalized.
In his opening speech, the vice president of the Tay Ninh Provincial People’s Committee, Duong Van Thang, declared the importance and relevance of this project following the rapid urbanization process and consequent public investments in the expansion and modernization of infrastructure and strengthening of the city’s basic services. “This project” – he stated – “is a concrete demonstration of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, Italy and Vietnam and I sincerely thank the Italian cooperation for this intervention.”
The Ambassador of Italy, Antonio Alessandro, in recalling the consolidated Italian experience in the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector, highlighted the Italian commitment in promoting the regeneration of territories based on the principles of sustainability, innovation and inclusion, main themes of Rome’s candidacy to host the 2030 Universal Exhibition.
The owner of the AICS office, Tiziana Fusco, recalling the prevention and response to the impact of climate change among the priorities of the Italian Cooperation, illustrated how the project intends, through the construction of the sewerage network, to guarantee controlled collection and transport of waste water and drainage, providing the city with adequate water management measures that reduce flood risks in the city and limit the population’s exposure to unhealthy water. At the same time, conveying this water to a modern treatment plant will ensure correct disposal in line with Vietnamese environmental legislation and related regulations, mitigating the impact on the environment following rapid urbanisation. The sewerage network and the water treatment plant will thus contribute to reducing the transmission of infectious diseases and improving the health and hygiene of the city and the population.
With the implementation of this initiative, Italy renews its support to Vietnam in a strategic partnership to achieve the objectives set in the Socio-Economic Development Strategy (SEDS) 2021-2030 and the National Strategy for Environmental Protection (NSEP ) until 2030.
