On 28 June 2022, AICS Hanoi had the honor of participating in the Workshop to start work on the amendment of the Water Resources Law opened by Deputy Minister MONRE H.E. Le Cong Thanh and co-chaired by the World Bank.

The event saw great participation from the main development actors at national and international level and marked the first step towards a law that maximizes the sustainable management, conservation and protection of water resources.

During the Workshop, Italy was recognized as a valuable partner for its expertise in weather forecasting, models and effective technologies for disaster risk reduction, particularly in the hydrometeorological sector and flood prevention. AICS Hanoi recalled the great efforts of the Italian system in disaster risk reduction solutions resulting from climate change, in particular those developed and adopted by the Central Functional Center of the Department of Civil Protection and that of the District Water Basin Authorities and the importance to have strong legislative coherence between the institutional, operational and regulatory frameworks, taking for example Legislative Decree 49/2010 on floods.

Emerging legislation and innovative trends on water quality, weather forecasting, monitoring and surveillance of weather-related hydrogeological and hydraulic risks, including flood management for water security in Vietnam were some of the topics covered by AICS Hanoi and on which the Agency is configuring Technical Assistance to support MONRE in reaching this important goal.
