Last October 3, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation – AICS participated in the event organized by the Vietnamese Administration of Meteorology and Hydrology of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) in which the results achieved in recent years were presented in the field. The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology of MONRE has undertaken a process of modernization of the meteorological monitoring stations and its equipment. It has also strengthened its capabilities in weather and disaster forecasting and reporting to decision makers for the formulation of socio-economic strategies and to combat climate change and urgent interventions. On this occasion, the new weather forecast and early warning system platform for flood prevention was launched.

The Italian support which over the years has contributed to increasing the level of automation of the meteorological monitoring stations is greatly appreciated; to enhance scientific and technological knowledge and skills by aligning them with Asian standards; to modernize communication systems; to increase the precision of weather forecasts in the short and long term also in order to prevent floods, through the interventions of the Italian Cooperation.

Last September 25, AICS approved the implementation of the new initiative “Technical Assistance on strengthening the regulatory framework of the water sector: multi-basin operations in real time”, which will support the program: “Development of a monitoring and decision support platform for the management of the Thai Binh – Red River hydroelectric basin system”.
