Hanoi — A monitoring mission from AICS Hanoi took place on May 14–15 in Hue, as part of the initiative “Improvement of Health Services in Selected Areas of Central Vietnam and at Hue College of Medicine and Pharmacy.”

The mission was led by Ms. Margherita Lulli, Head of Development Cooperation at AICS Hanoi, joined by Mr. Luca Sartorelli (WASH & Health Coordinator) and Mr. Quoc Dung Nguyen (Liaison Officer). This visit marked Ms. Lulli’s first field mission to Hue City within the framework of the above-mentioned project.

During the two-day mission, the delegation visited key project sites, including the new Obstetrics and Gynecology Department building and the Biochemistry Laboratory; and had a meeting with the Italian ODA Project Management Unit at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy (HUMP PMU); finally, the delegation held a technical discussion with the Thua Thien Hue Project Management Board for Construction Investment and Urban Development (Hue City PMU).

The new Obstetrics and Gynecology facility is nearing completion, with construction expected to finish before the end of 2025. Once operational, the building will include emergency care areas, inpatient wards, and a total capacity of 134 beds. The facility will be launched in phases to allow for the procurement of additional medical equipment, aimed at strengthening women’s healthcare services.

The mission also provided an opportunity for constructive dialogue with the HUMP PMU. Discussions focused on progress made, lessons learned, and future collaboration — particularly in enhancing medical education, expanding healthcare services, and fostering international cooperation. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts supported by the Italian Government to promote inclusive and resilient healthcare systems in Vietnam.
