The initiative, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, aims at improving the capacity of GSO in assessing, analyzing, and disseminating social and economic statistical surveys, which represent the basic information needed to govern the social, economic and demographic development process of the Country. More specifically, the initiative will strengthen the institutional and technical capacities of GSO in the production of surveys on population status and dynamics. The initiative will also contribute to the improvement of the availability and quality of data regarding the energy and environmental sector, thus allowing a more informed and responsible political decision making process on these topics. In the framework of the fight against climate change, ISTAT will support GSO in the set-up of a national greenhouse gas inventory system, in compliance with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and contribute to the preparation of the National Energy Balance of Vietnam. Workshops on business registers and the use of administrative data in the production of official statistics will allow the update, maintenance and use of databases to plan, monitor, and evaluate the complex economic dynamics that the Country is going through.
