Italy’s aid to Laos after the collapse of the dam at Attapeu

The Government of Italy is concerned by the tragedy that hit Lao PDR following the flooding disaster in the province of Attapeu occurred on July 24th, 2018. Italy’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Mr. Enzo Moavero Milanesi, publicly expressed Italy’s grief, as well as his condolences for the victims and sympathy with their families on July 25th, 2018.
With the aim to provide relief and support to the population severely hit by the flash floods, the Government of Italy decided to respond to the emergency appeal launched by International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to support the Lao Red Cross (LRC) in delivering assistance and support 7,500 people for 18 months.
The Italian Development Cooperation therefore decided to provide to IFRC an emergency contribution of Euro 80.000 (eighty thousand) from the Italian bilateral emergency fund at IFRC, as a sign of Italy’s friendship to the people of the Lao PDR in these difficult circumstances.
